Your Father knows what you need before you ask him (Mt - TopicsExpress

Your Father knows what you need before you ask him (Mt 6:8) Prayer means re-establishing daily intimate relationship with God: God thirsts that we may thirst for him ( St Augustine) In teaching how to pray (Gospel) Jesus first mentions the attitude. Prayer may fail because a wrong attitude is taken at the begining and whatever follows goes waste. The Father is eager to supply our needs but he wants us to approach him with an upright heart. We should think of the Lord in goodness and seek him with sincerity of heart, with an attitude of trust, and without putting him to the test. Similarly if we approach him we must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him Once the attitude that pleases God is assumed, the relationships established. In the presence of God the Father, the Spirit stirs up seven petitions in Our Father. Three draw us towards the glory of the Father: Your name....Your kingdom.... Your will.... In none of these do we mention ourselves. In the next four we raise our expectations: Give us... forgive us.... do not bring us... rescue us... The first two of these concern our life - to feed and to heal us; while the last two are our battle for the victory of life - the battle of prayer (CCC 2803 - 2805). FRUIT: When we pray let us be conscious of our sinfulness and weakeness before God.
