Your Life’s got a Label! Armani, Versace, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Pierre Cardin, Givenchy, Gucci, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Deola Sagoe, Tiffany Amber, Lanre Da Silva, Kosibah, Jewel by Lisa, Modela, Buttons, Chocolate and last but not the least, Adoness (watch out). Listed above are the names of some designer labels I know with mine `Adoness` inclusive (wink, wink). Everyone wears clothes; and some people take time to watch out for neat and detailed finishing on clothes which most of the designers listed above are known for. But do you know that before the outfits are produced, the designers usually have a vision of the end product...i.e.what the outfit will look like before it is actually created? Do you know that you (your life is) are someone`s design? As a designer (not a serious one though) myself, i have an ‘idea’ of how this works... So please permit me take you down the production line of creating an outfit. Designers get inspiration for their designs from different places. However, the first thing is that an image is formed in the mind of the designer of what she wants to produce before production takes place. In other words, there is a ‘knowing’ before the forming. The designer then starts to think of the season that her design will be showcased and worn. This means that, the purpose determines what season the clothes will be worn and also many others things including the fabrics, materials and process that will be used in bringing the design to completion. The designer after doing a mental calculation of the purpose and process of the design she has in mind, then goes to the mall or market to get the fabric and materials for the design she already envisioned at one point in time or the other. Like I said earlier, the purpose and end product of the design usually determines the quantity, pattern and texture of fabric and materials to be used. Whenever you see a lovely outfit that you really admire, please remember a lot of work was put in by the designer; and also that a lot of pain was endured by the fabric! The major subject i will be talking about is the fabric that was converted into that lovely outfit you love to wear! This is what happens. As soon as the material gets into the tailors workshop, based on the design, a pattern is drawn to mark out the style and measurement based on the size of whosoever is going to wear the outfit. After this, the fabric goes through a process called cutting. During this process it experiences the touch of cold and nonchalant spears known as a scissors...the scissors cuts through the fabric painfully but carefully ripping it into different pieces based on the pattern already drawn. In order for the fabric to withstand washing and also have a good fitting, based on the style (especially for suits and jackets) most of the pieces usually have what we call air-stay or gum-stay fixed on them with the use of a hot iron which enables the two separate fabric become one. After this, the different pieces then undergo the piercing rhythm of a naked needle as it does a sing along rhyme, stitching each piece together. If you have ever been administered drips or taken injection(s), then you will have a little understanding of what the fabric undergoes with the needle. Imagine the feeling of having those needles driven into your flesh relentlessly as you close your eyes to endure the pain. For each relentless rhythmic needle piercing the fabric undergoes, there is a hot corresponding iron pressing the fabric to keep the style in the mind of the designer on the right path. The procedure of stitching and hot ironing is repeated a time without number until the fabric begins to take the shape and form of the design (image) in the mind of the designer. Alas! The design is here! The designer nods her head proudly and admires the work of her hands. She puts the finishing touches... Buttons, zips and accessories where needed and is ready to showcase her design for the whole world to see! Hmm...so i was worshipping my heavenly Father one of those days and He reminded me of His words again ...before i FORMED you Bidemi, I KNEW you (Jer 1:5, Ps 139:13) and He gave me a deeper and better understanding by taking me through the process of producing an outfit above because He knows it will give me more depth and understanding because I am familiar with it. He then revealed to me how this is very much like what He is doing in our various individual lives. I will be sharing this tomorrow. To be continued. Stay tuned.
