Your decision to do something develops gradually and builds up to a certain strength before it becomes conscious. Evidently, “voluntary” is not synonymous with “conscious.” - Copyright | CENGAGE Learning | Biological Psychology | jauxniece@gmail | Printed from chegg Unconscious thoughts are the catalyst for conscious thought. Conscious thought can influence voluntary action, but it does not determine it (see above reference of scientific testing and proof to this). The unconscious YOU does. The bible speaks of the struggle of man in these scriptures: …15For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. 16But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good. 17So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 22For in my inner being I delight in Gods law; 23but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. But the GOOD NEWS is THIS: 25Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to Gods law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. We must stay focused on the fact that WE are not in control of even our seemingly voluntary actions, and therefore we MUST be dependent on the law of God, which we purposefully place into our subconscious. THEN, by the power of the Holy Spirit, our bodies will move in the direction that we could not have chosen willingly on our own.
