Your face had turned gray Your eyes not as bright We could no longer take walks Though I know you wanted to You ached all over You couldnt keep up Ill remember the sleek, black face The eyes that watched every move The one who came when I snapped my fingers Or watched and waited to take direction The one who followed loyally, letting the leash drag behind him You followed me wherever I lead, and I had always promised to be there when youd be parting on your final journey. You decided to spare me that. Go on your walks, take the ball I left with you, and wait for me on the other side of the bridge.
