The Union of Campus Journalists, (UCJ), Unilorin chapter was thrown into a state of mourning when the tragic news of the sudden demise of its new president, Zakariyau Olowo, filtered in early this morning. He was elected the president of the union few weeks ago. I was the Chairman of the Unions electoral body and he told me how he would make judicious use of the mandate given to him by the Pen Pushers. Now I wish everything would just end. To my readers and fans on social network, this is not what you should be reading today, but I am sorry, I just have to pay this glowing tribute to a friend and rare gem. Today is apparently the worst day of my life. If you find tears reading this, it is because this was written with the flow of my tears. My soul is in tatters. I have never felt so much pain like this.His life was an inspiration to many of his colleagues and friends. Until his death, Zakariyau Abiodun Olowo was a 300level Common and Islamic law student and the new president of the vibrant Union Of Campus Journalists (UCJ),Unilorin Chapter. He was a member of Human Right Chambers,Unilorin,an active member of LSS, a devoted muslim and committed member of NAMLAS,Unilorin Chapter,a dedicated member of the newly introduced ENACTUS Team(Unilorin),a current University scholar(overall best student in his department-300lvel).He was also a prolific writer. Olowo was a respected, inspirational and mindful young leader who is celebrated for his leadership qualities in the service of a larger cause. He was a student of impeccable character and humility par excellence. Olowo was amiable, intelligent, visionary, resourceful, industrious, conscious, enlightened, vibrant, accountable, prudent, humble, charismatic, virile, charming, charitable, attentive & enthusiastic. He was a gifted young and humble person. He was a humanitarian to the core, he places what is right above what is good, gold & glitters. He was a campaigner for the enthronement of democratic socialism & a believer in a better Nigeria. He was a vision oriented lad who cherishes value system. His prayer was to always be valued, honored, respected & envied at anywhere he appears, he believes in making impact in the lives of other people known or unknown to him. You left us at a time we least expected. Like your life, you left with your head held high. You died at peace with God and life.Zakariyau, you left in a blast of glory. In your absence, our bond will not break because our bond was not built on what we saw but what we shared, our love was never built on seeing each other; it was founded on helping others. I am glad I never spared words while we shared private messages. I am glad I never held a word back when I expressed my love to you. I am glad we both said everything we could say to each other the short time life gave us to share. You will forever be in my heart. Every new day gets me closer to you. Please Rest In Peace, Brave Heart. God bless and be with your family. This is not the end for us.
