ZARPA ROCK (Spain) Los 4 Jinetes del Apocalipsis Los 4 Jinetes del Apocalipsis 1978 True Heavy Metal from Legendary Spanish group who are still very active today! m.youtube/watch?v=lEO-PNipl6Q&fulldescription=1&guid=&gl=GB&hl=en-GB&client=mv-google Hailing from their town in the Valencian Country, Zarpa are a sort of Spanish Manowar, though unlike the stellar NYC band, Zarpa are, and always have been totally unknown, and underground since their formation, back in 1977 and under the name of Wolframio (!), soon changed to Zarpa Rock, and finally shortened simply as Zarpa, until today. Precisely from their early times when they responded to the Zarpa Rock moniker is this 1978s Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis, a first foray released by the unknow Zeus Records (?), which possibly was an extremely limited pressing (vinyl? Cassette?), I never have seen an original copy, at least...be said that some still insist calling this an EP, I dont know really why, its length, 34 minutes, is a bit short, but still absolutely normal for an album. The band members were very young when this album was recorded, 17-18 years old, even so these 5 tracks show certain aplomb, and sound pretty mature, coming like a sort of admixture of early Motorhead and Led Zeppelin, the production is rough and low budget, but its sufficient to appreciate the music contained in Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis (Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) which, as its title suggests, is based on the biblical text, though loosely, and to a certain extent shaped as conceptual record. Zarpa are active until the present day, led by eternal main man Vicente Feijóo and, since the mid 2000s, released by the German label Karthago Records, which came like a blessing for a group used to the artisanal, borderline bootleg issues. And odd band certainly, not completely devoid of grace, and which is not even well-known in Spain: this album, at least, represents a notoriously imperfect, but entertaining listen. Members Vicente Feijóo (vocals, guitar), Eduardo Feijóo (bass, backing vocals), Jesús Martínez (drums), Javier Hervías (guitar, backing vocals), Rafa Játiva (guitar, 1999-present), Manolo Cascales (drums, 1999-2007), Fernando El Rubio (bass, 1999), Gilbert Romero (bass, 2000-present), Bienvenido Godoy (drums, 2007-present)
