ZC Cleans up the Tree Stumps in the Estuary Last Saturday, the 12th of April, Mike Spearpoint arranged a band of helpers to cut up as many of the old tree stumps in the river as possible. Mike and Arhur Rump met the team from Allcut Services in the ZC boat, Curlew II, at Amsterdamhoek at approximately 08:30. The water was still going out but it promised to be a nice low tide. The team from Allcut Services consisted of Waldo, Patrick and Waldo’s two young sons, Jadon and Tristan. They also brought 3 chainsaws. Working from the mouth upstream we proceeded to visit each stump in turn and reduce it to small sections which will probably wash out on the next high tide. On the way upstream we met Gustav Aylward and his son, Jonathon, who were tackling some stumps with a large axe, but this eventually broke. Altogether we tackled 16 stumps and got as far as the islands opposite the brick works. There 2 particularly large stumps proved too much and the chain saw blades were blunt! We plan to return with more blades and perhaps one larger chain saw. We also need to tackle the large stump in Tippers Creek which we had to miss as the tide was too low. Our really grateful thanks go to Waldo and the team from Allcut Services who worked extremely hard and provided the equipment.
