*** ZEBRA CROSSING LEVEN ROAD, NORTON *** We have received numerous complaints regarding vehicles parking on the zig zag section of the above newly installed Zebra crossing. The zig zags form part of the crossing and it is an offence to park on the zig zags (whether the vehicle is occupied or not). This is a major safety issue, the zig zags allow pedestrians sufficient view along the street to establish if it is safe to cross. Vehicles parked or stopped on the zig zags obstruct this view - with potential serious consequences. Whilst officers have repeatedly warned motorists found contravening the zig zags, the offending has continued. Police will no longer deal with this issue by way of warning, public safety is paramount. All Neighbourhood officers have been made aware of this issue and will deal with offences by way of Endorsable fixed penalty notices which carry an endorsement of 3 penalty points on a driving licence and a £100 fine. Please respect the Zebra crossing and the safety of those who use it.
