ZESCOs Q&A What priorities have you set, if any, to address Zambia’s critical electricity needs? ANSWER Our priority is to stop load shedding, improve customer service, in order to address the challenges facing the electricity sector. We do realize the significance a customer plays in the electricity industry and ZESCO’s existence, and so our focus pivots on improving service delivery by ensuring that we deliver quality and reliable supply to all our customers. To do this we have invested heavily in projects in the entire value chain. In the immediate we did the following; 1. Commissioned additional 360MW of electricity on the national grid through Kariba North Bank Power Station expansion. 2. We have also enhanced energy efficiency measures through our Demand Side Management Department. For example we have been distributing energy saving bulbs for free and so far distributed over one million six hundred bulbs in selected areas country wide. We saved 85MW through this distribution project. We have also promoted products among farmers and industrial entities to help in using power optimally and conservatively. We believe that ‘power saving is power sharing’.
