ZTA optimistic of electronic visa regime: The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has expressed optimism the introduction of the electronic visa regime will result in increased tourist arrivals from India as well as strengthening the bilateral trade between the two countries. According to the tourism authority, government is working on relaxing the visa regime for the Indian market with a view to increase tourists’ arrival while boosting trade with the Asia country. Addressing tour operators and other stakeholders in the local tourism industry during a farewell dinner for the 9-member delegation of Indian tour operators who were in the country for a familiarisation visit, ZTA chief executive Karikoga Kaseke expressed optimism that the electronic visa regime will be finalised by August this year. Apart from the visa regime, access to Zimbabwean tourist destinations has been cited as one of the challenges hindering the increased tourists’ arrivals from India. Indian ambassador to Zimbabwe Jeitendra Tripathi said a memorandum of understanding has been signed between his country and Zimbabwe aimed at improving air connectivity. During their stay, members of the Indian delegation, which has since left, had a chance to visit some of the country’s tourists destinations, including the Victoria Falls. According to recent figures from the ZTA, Asia contributed 20 percent to the overseas arrivals during the first quarter of 2013.
