Zach received a call from Bakersfield City Animal Care Center about a 6 month old puppy who suffered a brutal Hack Job ear cropping. We walked in to find him sitting on the ground wrapped in the arms of a shelter worker. He looked up with the most perfect blue eyes and I shook my head. How can anything think doing this is ok? Dogs are on this earth to be our companions and friends, not to suffer by our hand. We never own a dog as much as we share our lives with them. One look at him and we knew he had never known that type of love or care. I sat next to him, pulled him into my lap and a tear came out of my eye. I found myself feeling sorry for this boy and the pain he experienced. They he looked up and did what pits do best, he showered us with kisses. He shouldnt love us but he does. He should hate the species that harmed him so much but instead he just wanted to show us affection. He had already forgiven our kind for the crimes against him and was living in the moment. He headed off to the vet where they cleaned the bloody ooze and scabs from his ears. They removed the fishing line that was used to crudely stitch his wounds. I cant imagine the pain this dog endured but I know we will never let anything like this happen to him again. We vowed to give him the very best life possible from now until forever. I named him Sir Richard Branson or Richie for short because who has a better life than Richard Branson? Soon his ears will heal and he will be ready for the forever home he deserves where he will know nothing but love for the rest of his life. Share his story and help us find it.
