Zimbabwe gets funding commitment from China but no cash – Chinamasa!!! HARARE, – Zimbabwe government received firm assurances from China that it would fund viable infrastructure projects but no cash for its economic revival programme, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said on Wednesday. President Robert Mugabe last week led a high powered delegation on a week-long state visit to China where the two countries signed a number of agreements. But expectations were high that the delegation would bring back funds of between $4 billion and $10 billion to inject in the moribund economy. Government requires $27 billion, which it does not have, to implement its latest economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation.(ZIMASSET) Chinamasa told legislators during a question and answer session that “China did not give budgetary support to any country in the world.” “What we have been able to achieve was serious engagement with the Chinese authorities and received serious commitment of the highest authorities,” the finance minister said. “We came back with a commitment that they are prepared to fund without limit, any bankable, feasible project.” Chinamasa said China was interested in funding infrastructural development in areas such as power generation, road construction and rehabilitation, water and sanitation and railways. Mbizo Member of Parliament Settlement Chikwinya asked Chinamasa to explain if government had, in its negotiations ensured that Zimbabweans would benefit more on employment creation when the deals are implemented while accusing Chinese firms of bringing their own labourers. But Chinamasa in response said Zimbabweans had benefitted from previous deals with Chinese companies and would continue to do so.. “It’s not the first time I am hearing that allegation. We have projects which we have undertaken with them and I have no evidence of people coming to push wheelbarrows from China,” he said. “They come with technical people and labour is provided by Zimbabweans.” Beijing, according to Chinamasa, has made it a condition that only Chinese companies be contracted to implement the infrastructure projects. Is china going to honour their assurances, lets hope so because these guys in many countries where they are operating from they only brings their own goods and dump them in Zimbabwe and sell them after that they take the money back to china. The other issue if they are coming to do projects in Zimbabwe our Government should tell them not to bring their own labourer they should RECRUIT in Zimbabwe!!! what do you think.
