Zooms vs Primes for Birds & Wildlife. Well Ive been debating for - TopicsExpress

Zooms vs Primes for Birds & Wildlife. Well Ive been debating for some time whether or not to invest in a prime lens. My shoot this past Sunday at Salamonie my Sigma 100-300mm f4 bailed me out twice. Once with the Turkeys and another with the Bald Eagle photos below. I was shooting a Bald Eagle in a tree on the river and need a little more zoom so I put a 1.4x converter on the Sigma zoom lens. I was waiting for the Eagle to come out of the tree but instead I caught out the corner of my eye a juvenile flying towards me. I was able to set the zoom down to 100mm and lock on the Eagle and kept shooting until my buffer filled up. Probably not the best photos but it gave me a chance to get them. If I would of had a 400mm prime I believe the lens would of been to strong to get him in the frame. I guess what Im saying is I would give up some quality for a little more versatility. Just my opinion.
