a few seconds ago OVERCOMING BABY ENVY Excerpt from my DIARY: (Sometime in 2003) Today I nearly blew a gasket! Jonathan ( mu hubby) told me to wrap up a gift that we had gotten for a friends baby dedication. I sat on the carpet, angrily and carelessly cutting through the wrapping paper. Im surprised I didnt cut myself! It was amazing that the simple task of wrapping a present could stir up so many ugly emotions within my heart: anger, bitterness, envy, frustration, self-pity and rage. Angry tears fell on my hands as I wrapped the gift. By the time I was done, it was an ugly, haphazardly-wrapped mess; no doubt an exact reflection of how I felt inside. Why should I be happy for yet another friend who was having a baby when I couldnt have one myself? This was their forth child. How unfair it was that they had four and I had none. I sat there staring at the gift and made a decision i wouldnt even attend the dedication! Suddenly, I felt a great conviction settle upon my heart, and the Holy Spirit began to deal with me so harshly about my attitude and my destructive envy. He told me in no uncertain terms that i needed to stop it immediately, and told me just how deeply I was grieving Him. Suddenly, i came out of the abyss of envy and anger long enough for my eyes to be open enough for me to see just how horribly I was behaving....and had behaved for quite a while till mow. Lets just say that by the time the Holy Spirit was done with me, I had re-wrapped the present (this time ever so nicely) and gotten dressed for the dedication. This was only the beginning of months of deep cleansing that the Holy Spirit would do in my life regarding envy and rage. What do you do when it seems like everybody around you is progressing in life and you are forever stuck in one stagnant state, no matter how hard you try to move? How do you deal with envy?
