a pretty good barometer of the difference between the political and religious climate in Finland and the US. we get harvey milks smiling mug on a stamp, they get the art of Touko Laaksonen, commonly known as Tom of Finland... i guess i am going to have to importune my Finnish friend(s) for a sheet of stamps to go with my Australian Matthew Mitcham - Olympian gold medal sheet. i must say, given the oeuvre they had to work with, they found an excellent median image. Laaksonens work, for good or ill, changed the way several generations of gay men envisioned masculinity, and themselves. his work has jumped off the pages and can be seen walking the streets of any city in the world.
