a well summarized note from Nitin Gupta There is a lot of noise in the performance claims of the UPA govt by various parties. I checked with the Planning Commission on the economic performance at the time of the end of NDA govt (2003-04) and at present. Here are the statistics: 1. GDP growth rate in 2003-04: 8.06%. GDP growth rate in in 2012-13: 4.96% 2. Gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) in 2003-04: 13.6% of GDP. In 2012-13: 1.7%. (Higher GFCF means higher investments and hence higher job creation) 3. Fiscal Deficit in 2003-04: 4.3% of GDP. In 2012-13: 4.9% of GDP 4. Inflation (CPI) in 2003-04: 5.5%. In 2012-13: 10.2% 5. Current Account Surplus in 2003-04: +2.3% of GDP. Current Account Deficit in 2012-13: -4.8% of GDP. The report card of the UPA government looks all in red. The above data is available on the planning commission website on the following link: planningcommission.nic.in/data/datatable/1612/table_1.pdf
