aight my facebook hip hoppers... lets have a discussion... follow me on this: For everything great Eminem has done with his music and his career, he is quite possibly the biggest reason for the current state of affairs of hip hop... not in a direct sense... and i am in no way detracting from Ems music when i say this... but the fact of the matter is when Biggie and Pac both died and the whole east coast vs. west coast feud began to fade out a lil, there was a huge void left behind... The east coast/west coast thing really forced hip hop into mainstream americas conscience... more as something to gawk at then something to partake in, but still the pac and biggie thing put hip hop right in front of the mainstream american eyes... and if were being honest, yeah thats white people... but white people are looking at pac and big and they arent relating... so when pac and biggie die, right there in 1997 its like... well how is hip hop going to remain in this type of relevancy for the majority of americans... how is hip hop going to sell on the nightly news now... if eminem never comes to fruition, then jay-z prolly carries the torch and hip hop probably stays at the level of mainstream notoriety it had experienced in the early and mid 90s leading up to pac and big.... but when you throw in a blue-eyed, blonde hair, skinny, weird looking white dude who can rap his ass off things changed... the pop music machine in america is run by white kids aged 10-17.... thats who buys the most records... thats who forces their parents to get shows to tickets... thats whos got the money in the pop culture industry of america... Ultimately eminem appeals to 10-17 year old white youth because he looks like them... when he scares the shit out of their parents with his rebellion that just makes them like him more... the fact he could actually rap his ass off brought together the hip hop community and the pop community... Em made great music... but unfortunately he opened hip hop up to a bunch of people who didnt know enough about the culture or the music... thats why before eminem you very rarely had garbage rappers on the radio and since eminem almost every rapper on the radio is garbage... Em by no means did it intentionally... i think if you listen to his music... hear who he shouts out... how he raps... why he raps... i think you grasp he has a genuine love for hip hop... hip hop gave em the strength to go from the outcast and picked on kid to the super hero (remember em grew up on comics)... but unfortunately since he was white... he ultimately exposed hip hop to the mega money that ruins any cultural movement... and its very interesting to think about 2 things 1. if em never met dre where would hip hop be 2. if em was black where would hip hop be your thoughts???
