There are three Vaishnava Divya desams glorifying the Vamana Avatharam . The three steps of the Lord can be seen in the following temples. First step at Seerkazhi, the second step at Thirukovaloor and the third at Kanchipuram. The name Thadalan is in honour of ( Vamana avatara ) Tiruvikrama form of Moolavar in this form. Perumal is seen measuring the Akasha with His left foot. As Lord scaled the world with his foot He is called “Thadalanperumal”.SriAandal her verses praising the golry of LORD THIRUVIKRAMANARAYANA called him ‘THAADALAN’. As LORD scaled the world and sky with his FOOT so he is called ‘THAADALA PERUMAL’.THAAL in tamillanguage means‘THIRUVADEE’ (foot) and AALAN means MEASURING or SCALING. As per Bhattars information those devotees who get an opportunity to have dharshanam of the right foot of Lord Thiruvikiramanarayanan and Thavittu Thadalan, a rare one that occurs on the auspicious Vaikunda Ekadasi day will have no more birth as LORD assures Kaliyan ( Thirumangai Azhwar ) when Azhwar seeks the same . Another important feature is Tirumangai Azhwar was conferred with the title Nalukavai perumal on winning the religious debate with Tirungyana Sambandar (Saivaite Kavi) and also obtained a Vel (spear - Shanmukas weapon) as prize. A Sannidhi for selva Deivanayaka Perumal is also seen here. Another special attraction of this temple is Perumal- Thaayar Sethi Utsavam is celebrated grandly on FIVE occasions in a year.
