at around 4pm today I waited on a lady with long, curly, blonde hair, pale skin, and with eyeliner wrapped around her blue eyes.. my section was empty. Just her... she sat there hand on her head. I asked her if was ready to order and she said no.. 10 minutes later I repeat and get the same response.. and I calm say I am here all night... taken as much time as you need she Smiles a sad smile and says thank you.. sad time went by she orders 1 scoop of icecream with nuts and hot fudge. I eventually gave her the check and said if you need anything else just let me know.. enjoy the rest of your day and have good holiday...... eventually we start to talk and she brings up that she has never missed a holiday meal with her family in 37 years. BUT this year she got a new job 9 months ago that want her to work thanksgiving 2pm to 11pm and then black Friday during the day.. she said its complicated.... but as I keep sitting and going over this in my head between losing my job or not having holiday with my family... I think about my best friend.. I lost him 10 months ago. He knew he was sick, we all knew he was sick, we just had to wait around because no one knew when he would leave us. One day I was visiting him and I stood beside his bedside and he couldnt talk but he could hear and he could barely lift anything. I think he knew it was time to go... he struggled but he managed to lift his hand up to mine to hold.. and I finally knew that my best friend was gone.. so you know what... I dont think Im going to work. Im spending it with my family. I know this is LONG but thanksgiving is just 4 days away... in one instant someone you love and care about can be gone. Someone your mad at, someone your in love with, someone you care about, your BESTFRIEND.....and we dont even care.... UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO US.. we think of thanksgiving as a day to eat a lot of food.. I take my family for granted, I am unbelievably selfish, I am self centered, I RARELY talk to people, I rarely talk to my family.... that is going to change.. ✔💜💍🎓💏🌠🎎💑👪💞
