bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-28857052 I knew he opposed a Scottish Assembly - but didnt know he opposed independence for The Bank of England ie opposed the one sensible thing Labour did on regaining power in the eyes of many economists and a move I recall defending on live radio (on BBC Scotlands Colin Bell Show on the day of 1997 Queens Speech) when other Labour Party people were presumably unobtainable or caught off guard by a surprise decision by Chancellor Gordon Brown (which was in fact a precondition for UK Euro entry and which had been foreshadowed by John Smith as Shadow Chancellor then Leader before his death ....)
