brilliant occupational therapist evaluated my son the other day. she gave me great ideas to tire him out and get him to settle down at night. i implemented them right away. she said he needs hard work, to really use his muscles. so i did what she said and loaded his mini backpack with heavy board books, and took him on an almost-mile-long walk to the playground - him walking with the backpack on while pushing his doll stroller (next time a big rock goes into the stroller, and im going to get him a weighted doll and blanket). he happily walked the whole way, and played on the playground with the backpack on. i had to put him in the regular stroller and walk him all the way uphill to get home, but that was good exercise for mama. twy had her bike with her so it was an exercise outing for the family. i only let him sleep for an hour (a third of what hes used to). he tantrumed for a half hour when i woke him up, but then calmed down (its a weaning process). and...last night he actually fell asleep while i was reading to my daughter, instead of climbing the walls and being total crazy monkey boy all over the room for over an hour. this is working. i shall keep it up. big change for me - more work! more time with him awake during the day. ill need more babysitting to see clients. ill make it work. so cute to see him happily working hard. his body needs it.
