by Marcella Meadows Some things we never forget. I remember walking around the hill to a neighbors house when I was a child. When I was leaving, she gave me a large, red apple. Dad usually bought apples at Christmas and sometimes in the fall. We had a few trees, but their apples were small and knotty. Anyway, they were a long way from ripening time. We seldom had fresh fruit. Mom taught us to always share with one another. On the way home my thoughts were running back and forth between taking it home and sharing with my three sisters or eating it on the way home. They would never know, but I couldnt bring myself to take the first bite. Mom cut the apple in four pieces. I still remember sitting on the floor with my sisters, eating my piece. No apple ever tasted so good. I got more enjoyment out of sharing with them than if Id eaten the whole apple. There are many little ways we can give to those around us. Sometimes all it takes is a listening ear or a kind word. The little things in life brighten our days, and uplift our spirits. It truly is more blessed to give than to receive.
