A lot of young graduates with good papers, some with Masters Degrees and other Postgraduate qulaifications get overlooked many times and employers hire those with less qualifications, i.e. Diplomas or just a First Degree. Many have no idea why this happens but since I have interviewed and hired a lot of young people let me tell you things that really put off potential employers: 1. I want to set up my own business You should not say this during an interview when you are asked where you see yourself in the next 5 years, especially in the private sector. No business owner wants competition. Use this phrase and you are immediately viewed as a extra-ambitious potential threat who will steal trade secrets and bolt out to start a rival business. 2. What exactly does your company do? If you ask this question during an interview, consider youself unfit for hiring. Potential employers want to hire people who know many things or everything about their company. Use the net to get info about a potential employer, for heavens sake! 3. Dont ask, How long will this interview take. It shows that you feel or think you are more important than your potential employers.Always make the interviewer feel important for setting up his enterprise or growing the business of a large company! 4. How much money will you pay me -This is one of the greatest put off for interviewers. Always seek to show the potential employer what you can do to help them, their company and/or organisation before discussing money.
