catch report w/e 23/3/14 To start our report this week we had a great report sent in to us from George West as follows ........... I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to do my work placement down at Broadlands Lakes and while I was working during the day I stayed a total of four nights to get some fishing in. While I was working I noticed a few fish showing tight to a marginal tree in front of peg 55 so introduced 2 kilos of boilies and intended to fish it the day after. Once work was finished for the day I managed to get set up in peg 55 and that night I caught seven to 21lb. I returned the following night and once again set up in peg 55 and fished towards the marginal bush that I had seen a lot of ‘shows’ I fished a rod length apart over a kilo of boiles and I quickly landed eight fish to 23lb 3. I then received another take and this fish felt a lot different to the rest, fighting deep and not wanting to give up. As it got closer to the net I caught a glimpse of a long pale shape and soon netted what turned out to be the most sought after fish in the lake “Henry Cooper” at a new record weight of 37lb 3. Overall I landed twenty seven fish during the four nights I did after work and I would also like to thank Debbie and Pete for giving me the opportunity to work and fish down at Broadlands lake and have very much enjoyed it. George West . With a very mixed week of weather mainly warm & sunny but a mix of everything from a quite strong wind at times to heavy rain & hail with temperatures dropping rapidly on the Sunday it was a challenging time for those on the bank with temperatures varying by 5 degrees from one peg to another ...... Now on to other news around the lakes ... Sy Turner has just joined the new membership so a little bit of pre fishing in the margins and trying the new BLS bait taking one fish on his birthday session to 9lb , An amazing result for Matt Harris fishing at peg 39 over a week end session banking seventeen fish to 22.8lbs with three of those being in the 20’s , again fishing tight to the margins , Regular Ash Doughty been at at again on a short session using creamy nut on peg 99 fishing tight to the island taking three carp to 20lb , all being high end teens , Gareth Birch at the hot area this week being around peg 56 landing five carp to 19.10lb he was another that used the method of fishing tight to the island , Good little session for Peter Drozd this week bagging nine carp in those margins to 18.7lb with the new popular creamy nut , Another on the creamy nut this week , regular Shawn Brewer did an overnighter landing one common at 20lb and two mirrors to 19lb fishing in the open waters from the hot peg 55 of the week where Henry made his appearance earlier in the week to George , Nick singleton again using the creamy nut , fished the short chuck (peg 87) and taking advantage of the open waters , landed five carp all being doubles to 16lb , Ben Freemantle used the ever popular Cell landed three carp to 19lb from peg 24 , Kevin Rogers and Sean Ryan turned up for a chill out weekend session making full use of the clubhouse facilities and to top off there weekend they had a Common and a Grass carp to 14.8lb between them with a great combination of using the ever popular peg 112 / 113 (Slingers) using the Cell & fishing tight to the Island . Over all it was a great week for everyone at Broadlands with lots of buzz & hype with “Henry Cooper “ one of the last fish stocked by the Queens Cousin - Lord Lois Mountbatten before he was assassinated in 1979 when the lakes were owned by him ,Henry was a mere 8lb then and this week landed at the all time heaviest 37.3lb
