confession #3828: Our generation does not know the meaning of RESPECT. Yes, one can express ones self freely. Yes, one can dress as one pleases. And so forth. No one is neglecting you of doing such things. But you need to understand that those things have NOTHING to do with respect. Self-expression and respect are two disparate things. You raise your hand to speak and you listen attentively while your professor speaks (without having side conversations), because that is the RESPECT that your professor deserves. Packing your belongings before class ends is the equivalent of talking to someone and the person you are talking to is checking his/her phone. It is disrespectful. Talking with your mouth full is possible--and you are able to, if you wish; nonetheless, it does not change the fact that it is disrespectful to the person you are talking to. Same thing goes with cursing; you can curse all you want, but it would be disrespectful to curse every third word while conversing to your professor while class is in session. Rearranging your desk and chair to its original position is the correct thing to do, as it is out of respect for the students in the class after yours. You address your instructor by Dr., Professor, Sir, Mrs., etc because it is the respectful thing to do, instead of calling the person by his/her first name. Thus, you expect the same respect in return. Its all about the golden rule in life: treat others how you would like to be treated. Just my two cents.
