copied from IRD website as requested.... I just wanted to update you on C.... He had another scope and botox today. It went well, scope looked good...did a few biopsies to get a reflux status wanted to see if there was any damage under the microscope...but other than that it all looked good...reflux meds are doing their job. He put 4 botox injections in...now we wait to see if it works again. The indicator we have that shows it has worn off...worked or not worked is he starts doing that constant throat clearing/cough.... with the last injections that went away after about 3 weeks....then just came back 3 week ago.... that is why we did another round. we follow up with GI in the spring to see how it is going and see what we want to do next. so far our options for discussion will be.. 1. Continue botox when they wear off...last time lasted about 4 months, so we could potentially put him under every 4 months for this for as long as it will work. 2. Get referred to a surgeon for pyloroplasty 3. Get referred to a surgeon for a fundo...to keep the acid down.... Now....I dont know for sure what we will do...everything has its good side and bad side...I dont like him being put under every 4ish months for the botox...esp since today was about the 14th time he has been under in 4 years.... the pylorplasty can provide a more permanent solution but can cause dumping syndrome if not done right And the dreaded fundo.... seems like a pressure cooker with GP and more up keep possibly...seems worse than the other 2 options... geez...what a choice huh? I dont know a ton about either...but I think I would maybe lean towards pyloroplasty..esp if the botox proves to work again.... seems better to keep the food moving down and out than plugging up the top to keep it all down until it decides to clear out... that seems painful! I would rather not have to do anything....would obviously have to talk to the surgeon too....but what are your thoughts and what to do? I always appreciate your thoughts....
