*copied from another community i follow, the dudes name is Steven Rose* Here is a clip from the Moderate Muslim Peace Conference @2:25, held in Norway, March 2013: https://youtube/watch?v=bV710c1dgpU#t=2m25s Here is a transcript of an excerpt: memritv.org/clip_transcript/en/4027.htm Here is a summary of a recent Pew Research poll on Muslim attitudes around the world: pewforum.org/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-overview/ ...and here is the full report: pewforum.org/files/2013/04/worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-full-report.pdf Islam Net, the group that put on this peace conference, calls itself moderate—indeed that is the point of the founders words in the clip above. In the context of the Pew Research poll above, is he right? Here is another Pew Research report about the growing concern in the rest of the world: people-press.org/files/2014/09/9-10-14-Islamic-Extremism-release.pdf Note that this report is polling respondents about their views on extremist Islam, meaning groups like the Islamic State. All of this leads me to wonder: What does moderate Islam mean? Do Muslims and non-Muslims share the same semantics around this term, or are the two groups largely talking past one another when this word is used in the conversation?
