{couples 40-day prayer guide} Day 17: Mission-mindedness We will declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples! {Psalm 96.3} One of the primary responsibilities of a Christian is to tell others about the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We are to be disciple-making disciples. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you...” {Matthew 28.19-20a} This mission, or commission, that Jesus gave to His disciples is the same mission that each believer has been given today – to be disciples who make disciples that make disciples, spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth. While the commission is the same for all, it looks different in each of our lives, based on the way in which God has gifted us and called us to serve Him. We each ought to be looking for ways to spread the gospel within our local body of believers and in our communities {be it locally or overseas}. The powerfully attractive thing about Jesus’ life when He walked this earth in the body and now is that He not only lived with an amazing and attractive sense of purpose – but He invites us to join Him. Meeting Jesus and surrendering you life to Him is amazing. But finding out why He gave you new life is transforming. Pray that your spouse will take Christ’s commission to heart. Pray that they will seek out how God wants them to live out this mission in their daily life. Pray that they would live out the mission, regardless of the cost. Pray that God would bring along friends in Christ who would be encouragers and guides to them in learning the heart and ways of Jesus. Trust me in this – if they discover this life – your life with them will soar to new heights of richness and vitality. If you have children this more than anything will give them a foundation for their future. 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” --- Getting Started - God, I pray that You would awaken within my spouse a passion for Your purposes and mission. Help them to understand that they have a God given call on their life, that really matters. Help him/her to see the need, recognize the opportunities, and hear the prompting of Your Spirit to be a vital part of what you wish to do in their circle of friends, in their workplace, within our family – help them to awake each new day with a desire to live out the Great Commission – to be a disciple who makes disciples – and let all of that Lord flow from the center – let my spouse to love you above all else with all their mind, all their strength, all their heart and all their soul.
