deadline 20 Nov Forest Strategy Coordinator (HAIDA GWAII) (Contract to March 31, with possible extension) Haida Gwaii Management Council ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The Haida Gwaii Management Council (HGMC) forms part of the decision making framework outlined in the Kunst’aa guu Kunst’aayah Reconciliation Protocol. It was convened in 2011 by the Haida Nation and the Province of BC to create a more productive relationship through a joint decision making process, resulting in a more respectful approach to land and natural resource management on Haida Gwaii. The HGMC has the authority to make joint determinations related a specific set of strategic land and resource decision types. OPPORTUNITY: An additional responsibility of the HGMC is to develop a new Haida Gwaii Forestry Management Strategy. A discussion Paper was recently shared with the public and stakeholders that identified a numbers of challenges and opportunities. In a recent communication on the next steps in the development of a comprehensive forestry management strategy, the HGMC committed to facilitating the establishment of a community forum for the development of strategies on priority issues. The goal is to increase opportunities and derive greater benefits in all aspects of the forest sector on Haida Gwaii. The HGMC is seeking a Coordinator to undertake the following activities: Reporting to the HGMC to act as a liaison with forestry companies, local governments, the Council of the Haida, and the Provincial government to develop an action plan and next steps for the establishment of a community forum. Leverage existing funding and resourcing opportunities through industry, educational institutions and non-profit organizations and Gwaii Trusts to build a comprehensive approach. Work through interested parties to identify priority initiative linked to the forest management strategy discussion paper and build momentum to deliver initiatives in the local community that support the key goal of increasing employment, economic opportunities and capacity building in the communities. Closing Date: Nov 20, 2014 How to Apply: Applicants must be resident on Haida Gwaii. HOW TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL: Contract- Forest Strategy Coordinator The purpose of this proposal is to select a person having the experience and expertise needed in forestry to work with the HGMC, the public and stakeholders on Haida Gwaii to facilitate the development of a community forum to collectively explore options and strategies on priorities. The community forum is intended to be a one time event, with the possibility of future sessions. This is a temporary contract position(up to March 31,2015) but may be extended if warranted. Key for this contract will be the ability to leverage funding and resourcing opportunities to establish and maintain a community forum.
