dont think U.S. soccer will ever be consistently good or contending until we take the sport out of the mini-vans and into the streets; if it ever takes hold in areas where athleticism flourishes-- urban areas in the northeastern states, the rural south. When we cant leave the house without seeing hordes of youths kicking balls down alleyways, into transit buses, and up against the walls of the Comcast building, *then* well pull ourselves into the global World Cup convo. American dominance has sustained in basketball, not because we have organized it to death, but because its still a passionate part of the soul of disenfranchised folks throughout the country. Thats what China will never get about bball; thats what we dont get about soccer. Perhaps well luck up and a truly transcendent player will be born here, but if these are our options, its not looking good.
