en 19:26 - But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. See the start of Lots tragedy in this verse. What was his wife doing behind him? I dont think any culture supports that arrangement. The children were supposed to be in front with the mother while the father is behind them or the mother is walking beside her husband. Lots arrangement showed a disorganised man who card less about his household. Only God knows what he was busy thinking of. His marriage must have been the Genesis 3-kind of marriage. Oneness was missing; they were separate entities just living under the same roof maybe just for procreation. The knowledge of God was not prevalent here. Definitely there was no family altar in this home. It was every man for himself. Another important question that needs to be asked is that where did Lot get his wife from? The Bible nevertheless us about his wife until he got into Sodom and the likelihood is that she was from Sodom. Culled from my book Making your calling and election sure - an exposition on the story of Lot, a man that missed it Commentary : What is you family like? Where are you picking your wife from? The Promised Land or Sodom. Where is your husband from sister? the Promised Land or Sodom. Those two cities are the only ones producing spouses. You will always choose from one. Lot did not follow Abraham who sought Rebecca in the Promised Land for Isaac and it costed him all. Many brothers and sisters are in a marital agony because they went to Sodom. They were warned but turned a deaf ear and are so ashamed to come back for help. You had better swallow your pride and seek help before you end up like Lot who lost all. Maranatha.
