en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assam_Movement Upendranath Brahma was born on 31 March 1956 at Boragari village near Dotma, a small township at Kokrajhar district of Assam, India. He was the son of Hindu Bodo couple Monglaram Brahma and Lefsri Brahma. He was the fifth, and youngest, child. He was called Thopen during his childhood. He grew up in poverty. Brahma was elected as the President of the Goalpara District Students Union in 1978-79. He was vice-president of the All Bodo Students Union between 1981–1983 and president from 1986. The official Bodoland Movement[3] for an independent state of Bodoland started on March 2, 1987 under the leadership of Upendranath Brahma of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).After Upendra Brahma, an Assam revolution member himself when denied ticket to contest loksabha election, returned home to create a separatist group with the intension to move Bodos away from Assam. The ABSU created a political organization, the Bodo Peoples Action Committee (BPAC), to spearhead the movement. The ABSU/BPAC movement began with the slogan Divide Assam 50-50. The irony of tragedy is that the first martyr of Assam Movement, as per the official record, is a Bodo youth and hence everyone is indifferent about the supreme sacrifice of this lesser known Swahid. As per the official record of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and All Darrang District Students’ Union (ADDSU), Mukunda Boro a youth belonging to the Bodo community from village Tezialpara under Kalaigaon police Station in Darrang district (now in Udalguri district) attained the martyrdom on November 27 of 1979. Same day a mass rally at Gandhi Maidan in Mangaldai jointly organized by ADDSU presided over by eminent freedom fighter Pani Ram Das and in that rally the leaders of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had declared him to be the first martyr of Assam Movement. On December 10 of 1979, Swahid Khargeswar Talukdar of Bhabanipur in Barpeta district attained the martyrdom while taking part in the road blockade to prevent Abida Begum–wife of Late President Fakharuddin Ahmed from submission of her nomination paper for the Lok Sabha election from Barpeta Parliamentary Constituency. And in that blockade, KPS Gill played the key role in brutal killing of Swahid Khargeswar Talukdar. It is technical truth that at that time people were busy with the agitation , no mobile or internet so the people of Assam always follow what the leaders of that agitaion and news papers of Assam said. At that time some leaders of AASU, some leaders of Oxom Hahitya Hobha, some leaders of AAGSP and 99% of media of Assam mislead the people of Assam to lost their self confidence later. Now 16 Nov, this 22 Nov let’s honor Mukunda Boro and let the world know that we do not deprive the deserve ones. How many our Oxomia people will come forward to honor Mukunda Boro? Otherwise definitely after 351 years later people will say the real enemy of Assamese people was Assamese people themselves. Do I need to say any more?? dy365.in/news/details.php?aID=28619&subC=0#.VGfEgtFxnIU
