esotho took full advantage of Kenya’s slip up as they progressed to the quarterfinals of the 2013 COSAFA Cup after beating Swaziland 2-0 on Thursday and consequently topped Group B. Lesotho were surprise winners of the group on Thursday as Kenya saw their hopes of a quarterfinal spot slip away after a last minute goal in their match, also on Thursday, saw the Harambee Stars lose 2-1 to Botswana. Lesotho will now face Angola in their quarterfinals of the Southern African competition on Sunday while Kenya, Swaziland and Botswana will all be heading home. It was a superior first half performance from Lesotho that saw them win their match in Lusaka after a goal from Philip Letsie midway through the first half and one from Tsepo Seturumane in the 44th minute saw them take a 2-0 lead into the break. It was a lead they would maintain as they defended admirably in the second 45 to hold on for the spoils and all three points. For Kenya it was heartache in Kitwe as a goal in the dying minutes of the match saw them lose 2-1 to Botswana. Botswana opened the scoring 12 minutes into the match as Lemponye Tshireletso curled home an exquisitely struck free-kick from just outside the box, 1-0. The rest of the match, though, was a dull affair as neither side could find a second goal until the 87th minute when Kenya restored some hope after an own goal from Edwin Olerile levelled matters, 1-1. However, deep into injury time Kenya’s defence went to sleep and allowed Jerome Ramatlhakwana to nod home for the winning goal, 2-1. View results () You have to be signed in to vote!
