espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/story/261687.html On this day of thanks I would ask that you all read this regardless of its length. I have never been more thankful for the countless blessings I have enjoyed in my professional career this year. From GSP to Will Blackmon, Dominick Cruz, Freddie Roach, Miguel Cotto, Ruslan Provodnikov, Zou Shiming, Manny Pacquaio, Bode Miller, The Vodafone Bulls Rugby Team, PVM, Connor Farren, etc, I could never have dreamed of working with better people. The successes of the last 6 months, bring a sense of elation that cannot be put into words. Any of you that know me personally know that the only direct family I have left are my sisters. The athletes of Sport Science Lab, ARE MY FAMILY and I have attempted to treat every single person that trains there as such, regardless of their ability or level of success. Character, integrity and work ethic are all that matter to me and I will do anything to help those that show these qualities. I am here in South Africa working with one of the top two Rugby franchises in the world and the high of these last few months all came crashing down last night as I learned that Shane Del Rosario had suffered a catastrophic heart attack at his home, and is on life support fighting for his life at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Ca. For those of you that dont know Shane, he is a 30 year old UFC Heavyweight fighter and yet is one of the gentlest, kindest souls you will ever meet. With my travels this year he has primarily trained with Sazi. Shane always has a smile on his face and has struggled with continuing his fighting career ever since his car accident. He has been with us for over a year and he and I have been texting back and forth recently on fight results, what hes doing etc. The night of GSPs fight he was in Texas texting me and the next thing I hear he is on life support. The harsh reality of life is that we have no guarantee of time. Life can change in a instant both for the positive or negative. I dont pretend to have figured out anything in life that the rest of you havent. But I do know this. Life is short and our time here needs to mean something, give everything you have every day, its the only thing I know for sure. On this day of thanks, I would ask that first and foremost you say a prayer for Shane and his recovery, while the chances are slim there is still a chance. Second, that whatever your differences are with those that matter to you, they cant possibly be more important to you then them knowing how much they mean to you. So please on this day, hug your children, your husband, your wife, your parents, etc. and be sure they know how much they mean to you. You never know if you will get another chance. Lastly to Shane, you are a member of the Sport Science Lab family and we all pray for your recovery and are here to help you in any way possible. You are too young to leave us! Sincerely, Gavin
