face book asks whats on my mind...well here goes face bookians...In rescue, we are in a prime position to be taken advantage of we listen to sob stories, take in animals when we are past full, pay vetting on animals when a owner can not. There are no perks and no fringe benefits...people write bad checks, back charge visa after paying for the dog, promise to pay what ever...on those rare occasions, when we take in an owner surrendered animal or a fully vetted animal, rescue looks at these as windfalls...an opportunity to collect an adoption fee on an animal that requires little to no vetting. The adoption fees are quite reasonable and usually adjusted so the animal can be placed. It is not fair to the rescue, the animals or the new owner to suggest that an adoption fee be waived because we have little to no investment in an animal. I am personally tired of feeling like the rescue is being taken advantage of..I am personally tired of people taking it upon themselves to make a promise that it is not up to them to keep. I am tired of begging for funds for supplies, medical care, food etc...the $150 adoption fee (normally $250) will totally vet 3 animals, buy 7 bags of dog food, 2 trays of vaccines, 1 bottle of dewormer, 2 packages of flea prevention...to the person this is directed at...shame on you..to suggest flippantly that the rescue that we take it from money owed you. How quickly people forget about the rescue giving dog food, antibiotics, heart worm prevention, discounted vet service, placing phone calls and getting emergency vet care etc...with no expectation of reimbursement...I am mad as hell.and disappointed that someone on the periphery of rescue, that does little except brag about all the good they personally do...cant abide by rules in place...bottom line...it is not me, it is not the person that ultimately suffers, it is the animals. Rescue is difficult enough...I just expected better...on that note, I am going to bed, I am dead tired..emotionally and physically drained...tomorrow is a new day..but for now I am pissed!!!
