#filmsam #birthanniversaryam #rajindersinghbediam It feels deeply embarresing, when you miss out writing about a man on his Birth Anniversary who was a Sahitya Akademi Award winner, a Padma Shri, and in course of his association with the Hindi film industry, had won the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogues not just once, but twice. September 1 was the 99th Birth Anniversary of RAJINDER SINGH BEDI - a prolific writer and one of great repute. His short stories GARM COAT and LAJVANTI are still considered to be one of the finest stories of the Urdu Language. People have even compared him with the great Sadat Hasan Manto for his sensitivity and forthrightness. He wrote the dialogues of some of the Classic Hindi films like Madhumati, Devdas, Anupama, Satyakan and Abhimaan. Despite his great literary tastes and standing, he was quite excited even about Hindi films, and had got so involved with it, that he teamed up with Geeta Bali, Balraj Sahni and director Amar kumar and formed a production company called Cine Cooperative. The first film under this banner was GARAM COAT which was directed by Amar Kumar. Apart from writing dialogues and producing films, he also made his debut as a director with the Sanjeev Kumar-Rehana Sultan starrer DASTAK. His Sahitya Akademi Award winning novel EK CHAADAR MAILI SI was later made into a film. The film has some stunning visuals by ace cinematographer Shahji N Karun.
