The article by ITG analyst was first published in September 22nd, claiming that August seems like a slow month. Yesterday, basically he was just reiterating the article again, with the addition of saying September may be worst than August. With the use of that article, instituion/hedge fund can start the game by throwing lots of short into the market. People will panic and think OMG GRPN is dying, earnings are bad, stock price dropping, time to cut the loss! Then the institution can buy to cover after all the amateurs sold and caused the stock price to plummet. I remember reading that if you have $5 million dollars in hand, with the assistance of a little rumor, you can cause small cap and mid cap (such as GRPN) to slide hard and profit. Those are the sharks, us little fishes, we gotta be careful not to be eaten by them! The price drop this past 5 days were all based on speculations/manipulation. The drop on Oct 17th had no related news. Some might say its due to eBays poor outlook, but hey after eBays CEO clarified what he said, eBay rallied 3% on Oct 18th, while GRPN stayed the same. The drop yesterday is due to ONE analyst in the whole research firm sector. I dont know if they will have more games to play before earnings come out, i.e. drop the stock price lower than it currently is at using rumor+massive short, what I do know is the fundamentals of Groupon never changed recently. The management and business plan proved successful in the last few quarters, and the company is expanding with the recent acquisitions and hiring of top executives from various large companies. Honestly, if you bought the stock because of the bullish momentum, then youll probably follow the bearish momentum right now and sell your shares. But if you bought the stock based on how you evaluate Groupon as a company, nothing has changed so far..... or did Chuck Norris became CEO recently which made the stock slide??
