free and fair, he says. Who decides fair? How can it be free, how can it be open, if someone is deciding whats fair and whats not? This is the camels nose under the tent. In the end, open and free will mean choked and unusable, and youll have to pay through the nose to get anything like useful speed. How will this help? Well, first it will help government cronies like the big media people who will do anything to stop competition from having a fast easy way to distribute programs and products to large numbers of customers. Time Warner wins, a Netflix or other type new media model loses. This means old media gets to stay with its model, and new media wont be investing (nor will anyone) in a new infrastructure that helps the new defeat the old in competition. It will be heavily regulated so that nobody will see the future profit and then decide to make the current investment. But even more ominous is the idea that government will eventually control who gets to communicate with whom, and at what level. Say you have a blast email or a website with a large amount of traffic, like the Drudge Report or Breitbart. This means you are now going to be regulated, so that these startups and small operations will have to employ government interfaces, experts, people to fill out the forms and assure compliance. It will cost you crazy money and youll go find another line of work. Compliance is a STRANGLER of free enterprise. And this government is UTTERLY UNQUALIFIED to decide what is fair and what isnt. The internet is like breathing, its like air, its how we hear each other talking. To make it into government-run bandwidth like analog broadcasting is to RUIN it for almost any use. It becomes just another cable for the cable TV moguls. And they are the cronies whose money supports Democrats and their other agenda items that are doing so much damage. Freedom is a fearful thing to people like these. Everywhere it appears, these people show up and try to stamp it out. You cant feed the homeless in a park, sir, your food might not be up to GOVERNMENT standards! Give them the business card of the Department of Feeding the Poor, have them begin to fill out the forms, and you must burn all your food immediately, sir, or you will be in prison. You cant be free to grow food on your own land and eat it yourself, no sir. Youd be a tiny country unto itself if you did that. How could government standards be enforced on you if you didnt need us? No sir, dig up those crops, and while youre at it, tear down your little pond dam, that water belongs to other people down the watershed, sir, not to you. How can we tax you and give favors to our cronies if the internet is just air for people to talk through? Thats not fair. There ought to be a law. Yeah, against TYRANNY. Oh, wait. There is one.
