The authors feedback makes a number of useful observations and additional issues that need to be addressed as we consider the reform plan for the RMG industry. Definitely worth reading. However their comments in the conclusion :"This document came across as self-interested promotional material trying to woo stakeholders by using the plight of the industry and poor workers so that big owners do not lose their business and profit margins and do not have to absorb costs of reform to the industry." Not sure what "self interested" motivation the authors thought motivated the authors of the point plan since less than 25% of the working are from the RMG sector and the balance of contributors gave many hours of analysis, time and effort on a pro bono basis. But one can certainly accept the need to deal with Rana Plaza compensation was an omission in the points that were highlighted. Nonetheless the challenges are complex and there is no easy solution so a wider debate can only help the key stakeholders: owners, BGMEA, workers, Gob, global buyers and overseas regulators find a plan tha makes equitable and tangible reforms to a sector that will remain the engine room for the Bangladesh economy for the foreseeable future.
