The political economy of Mount Ciremai geothermal deposit has ignited debates. In 2007 Chevron stated its expansion including to Indonesia. A year later, Ciremai listed among five proposed exploration sites. In 2011 it was reported that US interested in Ciremai for it has not been optimally managed. Between 2012-2013-it s clear Chevron wants to start working so bad, since it has won the tender fairly. The West Java government admits this. At this stage in national and local media we read various positions of government: expected to start processing exploration permits, affirming its support to development plan, informing that geothermal project is important to exploit for it benefits locals. More studies taken. As usual we see that community is pretty much uninformed on what’s going on and its impact, so they re trapped between yes or no to the plan. There is not much we know of communitys stance, except news of protests. Until recent startling news that Ciremai is sold to Chevron. An expert from LIPI/Indonesian Institute of Sciences Prof. Jan Sopaheluwakan, a geologist, stressed in an interview there is actually damaging impacts from such project. A point that brought into attention by those refused it, which West Java Governor denies.
