/gamedesignrant Just played League of Legends for the first time in a month or so... I understand the rational behind the changes, but what... They are trying to fix a circular hole with a square peg. Theres a laundry list of changes that are clunky, unintuitive, and require a paragraph explanation on the item. It is pretty obvious that the lead designer on these changes is Xypherous because of his fighting game background. Fighting games typically try to fix systemic problems with entire new systems (see Tekken: throws to counter blocking, right/left buttons to counter throws, parrying to counter low attacks, frame canceling for an artificial skill ceiling, etc.). Getting to the point where the game mechanisms are convoluted and wonky just to fix core problems that only exist due to the meta (like a jungler and support are required). I just wonder what a Euro board game designer would have done to streamline these changes instead of trying to tack on things to follow group think.
