getting back to my early days in a small college town know as the OKLAHOMA A&M COLLEGE OF STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA. 1935 - 1953 POP 10,000 PLUS AND WITH THE COLLEGE 7,500 PLUS. EXTRA EXTRA JAPAN HAS BOMBED PERIAL HARBOR DEC 07 1941. I had started selling the Stillwater daily Newspaper in the summer. With me knowing Robert (BOB) Belattie the grandson of the OWNER of the paper and his father the editor I had saved enough money to buy a Red Rider Wagon. Bells at the churhes were ringing and the Sirens were going off. Once we heard that an EXtra was going to be published we headed to the Newspaper Office. Getting there we only waited about 20 to 30 mins for the press to begin putting out the paper. With my wagon loaded with about 25 to 50 papers I took off and after every thing was done I had made over $100.00 of tips , hugs, and pats on the head. I sold newspaper for the Daily Newspaper until I was 10 or 11 and then got a Paper route with the Daily Oklahoman out of Oklahoma City owned by the GAYLORDS. I stayed with the Oklahoman until I was 16 and then went to work at night loading dairy feed at the Stillwater Milling Co. owned by Lt. Gov Berry and others. I also delivered Berry the paper and if it was not right on his front porch and near the door he would call in that I had missed delivery. Guess you want to know what I always done. I would hit that damn big window door as hard as I could to wake the OLD MAN up around 430 am each day. After awhile he would never call in and complain.
