gofundme/helpmikeysail Aloha Family, My name is Michael DeBenedetto and I am 23 years old from Tustin, California. After receiving a BA in Communications, I moved to Kona to work on a coffee farm... why you might ask? It is because I want to eventually reach out and help people in economically depressed areas. I want to teach them how to grow, process, and sell coffee in order to improve their lives. I have been involved with coffee since I started working as a barista at 16 years old. After doing research in the company, I was astounded to find that farmers in third world countries often receive less then $100 annually for their labor. After I had worked on this coffee farm for 3 months let me tell you... this is just not fair wages for the work. I want to take my experience and passion to get into these countries and help forever change the lives of those less fortunate. God has opened an amazing door for me to help my dream become a reality. I was accepted into the January 2014, YWAM (Youth With A Mission) Ships program at the University of Nations in Kona, Hawaii. Currently I am trying to raise funding for my missionary outreach. This ministry will be sailing through the Marshall Islands which are in the most north eastern section on Micronesia. The crew and myself will be sharing the love of God to the islanders by providing clean water, food, and healthcare supplies to those in great need. The amazing thing about this outreach is that we will be going to islands that can only be reached by ships! The negative about this is that it makes the cost of my outreach significantly expensive. I feel strongly that we, as a society in developed countries need to start giving back to the communities of the world which are far less fortunate in certain respects. Its hard for me to sit comfortably surrounded by abundance while there are people in the world struggling for their basic needs. It is also hard for me to describe my feelings when I found out about the Youth With A Mission Ships program, I was blown away by the compassion that this group has for giving back to the world. I knew that I had to become a part of it. I believe that it is my life goal to try and give whatever I can to anyone who is in need of fundamental human rights.
