good morning everyone-one year ago today, sandy was battering our area as well as new jersey with big time damage, fires, flooding, deaths, power outages, and gas shortages!winds gusted to over 90mph in many areas and the power was out for days, weeks, and even months in areas near the ocean!waves as high as 32 feet were reported.a storm to the west of the appalachian mountains moved east as sandy was moving in from the west and this created heavy wet snow in some areas of west virginia, pennsylvania, and western maryland with some areas receiving over 2 feet of snow!this storm had impacts from the great lakes to the southeast because this storm was large in size and its energy expanded to near 1000 miles.can this type of storm happen again?absolutely, and im afraid that it could even be worse than sandy!air and ocean temperatures are increasing leading to stronger storms even in areas that dont typically see them.we just have to be prepared before the storm happens, not after.i can see how a catagory 2,maybe slightly stronger than that could impact the area given the right weather conditions{96-110mph}.it has been a busy couple of year around here in terms of the weather!irene, sandy, february 8th blizzard with 32 inches of snow in centereach, long island,6 inches of snow on november 7th,one week after sandy devastated the region.a couple of tornadoes reported in the area with minor damage.busy, busy, busy to say the least!
