got a call for an interview at a restaurant here but kind of doubt it will go through as the interviewer admitted he already had a full staff and was just looking, and, due to the fact that I told him I had a temp job I am to do that might interfere this week. It was at a place I had actually wanted to work though I knew the pay would be lower than I would like. I do like working with food though and dave and I always talk about opening our own place someday so experience would be good. what kind of bothered me though was his system of incentives. Now, I definitely believe that a merit system is good ,but his idea is that schedules, everything, is done by merit. so if and when I come in and do better than the person who is already assigned to my position on days, I can effectively wrest her schedule away from her and get more hours. I cant see this system as making coworkers a group of people you actually want to work with. seems you would always be viewing the other people as enemies and have some trying to sabotage others. Why train the person learning your job well, when they could steal your place? I have a hard enough time getting along with people as it is, let alone have them hate me because I would take the hours from them they wanted. I think if a person is not living up to potential, you fire them, and move people into schedules they want or hire others to fill. Give raises based on merit. His system seems counterproductive. shame, because it was really close to my house and where I had wanted to work until I talked to him. but then, he may not call me back anyway so no point in worrying about it.
