had an adventurous weekend with the girls at Wilson Creek. we were pleasantly surprised to find Athena and Sydney at the campsite when we arrived. we had the bright idea to place a tarp under our tent since the ground was wet from the rain earlier that day. whelp that wasnt such a bright idea! it rained that night...no, it poured! our tent leaked... Brianna and Kaitlin had to sleep in my car to avoid the drip drip drip. Canzada slept with me since my side of the tent did not leak. as the night sky opened up the water rose in the tent...with the help of the tarp the tent was sitting on. fortunately, we sleep on air mattresses. the next morning we removed all the wet bedding and tossed them in the car. propped up the mattresses so the ground under them could dry as best as possible. we enjoyed Saturday (late) morning on a sandy bank of Wilson Creek. @#%^&*() that water was COLD! the girls talked, splashed, built sand castles and I stacked rocks. after we ate lunch we went tubing down the river. we spent 2-hours going over rapids, floating through lazy curves, dodged tree limbs and even ducked under one. we saw beautiful scenery, old relics of the past textile industry in Mortimer, and the occasional fisherman or fisherwoman casting their lines. we even saw the clouds break open with hints of blue sky. we enjoyed an evening roasting our hotdogs over the fire and feasting on smores. with our tent dried and our bed made. we place the tarp on top of our tent. we went to bed only to be awakened to a down pour of rain and gentle rumble of thunder. my babies were snug in their dry beds and no drips. we woke sunday morning with rain drops. after breakfast we broke camp...our drenched tent was not packed but placed in a blue tote waiting for a dry day to be set up again. we arrived home about 2 and have been working on laundry every since.
