has just seen Gods Not Dead and to be honest it is a well done and engaging drama. This will probably be one of the best movies you will see this year. This movie totally surprised me. I do not really watch a lot of religious or faith-based films(and when I do, they tend to be in the horror genre, do not judge me, lol) but Dead grabs and keeps your attention from the very beginning. Harold Cronks direction is very well done and he does a good job of making the characters relatable. Even though this is a Christian-based film, I think anyone(no matter what you believe in) can truly sympathize with the main characters when it comes to defending or having your beliefs challenged. Cronk does a good job presenting both sides of the argument but he presents it in a realistic manner. Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomons script is decent enough but it mostly feels like it was written as a tv movie. All the typical dialogue is there and it basically follows the same set up as most movies(especially in this genre) follow but what Konzelman and Solomon does best, is truly making us emotionally invested in the story. This is one of the few movies that has ever emotionally touched me(I did not cry because buggy boys do not cry, LOL) and when you can do that, you have done a pretty good job in my book. Deads strength is a attributed to the performances given in the film. Shane Harper does a good job as our films lead and he offers a certain hope that is truly lost in the world today. Through his performance, we learn that every good thing you do will not be in vain. In due time you will reap the benefits. The person that really steals the show is Kevin Sorbo. I have never followed Sorbos career but I do rememeber him being on the 90s television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. He totally excels in this role as our films villain. He truly makes you believe he is that character and anyone expecting a Hercules type performance will be disappointed. He lets us know that there is more dimensions to him. I really enjoyed his character arc as well. They are backed by a supporting cast that includes David A.R. White, Dean Cain, Trisha LaFache and Cory Oliver. Dead touches on many important themes such as faith, religion and the trials and tribulations one might experience in their life. One minor thing I did not like about Dead is that it felt too much like a Hallmark movie-of-the-week. It felt better suited for television(even though I think it is awesome that it received a theatrical release). Above all Gods Not Dead shows us that no matter what your religious or personal beliefs are, always be prepared to stand up for what you truly believe in.
