Odent points out that autistic children produce less Oxytocin. He is incensed that “thousands of articles all over the world” have discussed the link between MMR jab and autism although there is no “valuable epidemiological study detecting correlations” between the two. The C-section debate Yet, many studies - including one by Nobel Prize winner Niko Tinbergen – “have detected risk factors for autism in the perinatal period, such as anesthesia and induction of labour….This lack of interest – this blindness – is cultural. It is shared by the media, the general public and even authoritative medical and scientific circles.” Perhaps his most persuasive findings come from a study of 4,000 Chinese babies with a C-section rate of 56 per cent (the World Health Organisation states that no country should see more than 10-15 per cent of all births). The babies were divided into three groups: normal vaginal birth; assisted vaginal birth (forceps or ventouse) and pre-labour elected C-Section. “After controlling for many associated factors,” Odent concludes that the last group had the “lowest risk of psychopathological factors” that he calls, “highly significant”. Is the man who popularized waterbirths advocating more caesareans? “Non. But the only group not exposed to synthetic Oxytocin were those born by pre-labour C-section.”
