... here are the bios for the band that will be playing at the Gabriola Community Hall on Saturday November 16th Bios: Victor Anthony is a singer/songwriter, actor, musician and photographer living and working in British Columbia, Canada. To date, he has released three CDs of original material with a fourth in the works. His musical style is firmly based in the roots tradition of the American South but the lyrics are up-to-date vignettes of life and love, full of rich visual imagery and simple truth. Click around and have a listen - victoranthony.ca. Victor has made his living in the arts since 1985, the last year he had a real job. In 2007, he and his wife emigrated to BC from Cumberland County, Tennessee which was culture shock to be sure but the good kind. Now, if he could just figure out how hockey works... Lloyd Arntzen is a clarinetist and saxophonist who has devoted his life to the study and performance of New Orleans Jazz. He has led bands in the Vancouver area for many years: The Cassic Jazz Band,Red Onion Rhythm Kings, Arntzens-Three Generations in Jazz. He plays regularly with The Dixieland Express at Hermanns Jazz Club in Victoria, and at festivals with Blackstick, which includes his grandsons, Evan and Arnt.He has appeared at traditional jazz festuvals all over Canada and the U.S.Lloyd has shared the stage with jazz greats Lance Harrison, Chris Barber, Pete fountain and Bob Draga, Marisha Devoin: Since graduating from Vancouver Island Universitys Bachelor in Jazz Studies program Marisha has been playing in jazz, blues, R&B and country bands, touring the world in cruise ship lounge bands and darting between “The ‘Mo” and The Couv to be a part of the organized chaos that is musical theatre! Legally Blonde: The Musical (TUTS), Some Enchanted Evening & A Cottage Community Christmas (Theatre K), A Countryside Christmas (Chemainus Theatre), A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline (Arts Club/Chemainus Theatre), and Urinetown: The Musical (Schmooze/Bard to Broadway). A highlight this year was being at TEDx Gabriola Island and the Victor Wooten workshop, both at The Haven. Nowadays she can be heard in a jazz trio and a bluegrass trio (Hub City Ramblers), both with Gabriola guitar & mandolin sensation Brad Shipley, as well as Chemainus Theatre’s upcoming production of It’s A Wonderful Life. marisha.ca
