hey everyone! thanks to those who made it into class today. I appreciate the effort coming in on such a cold, snowy day. That being said, things certainly heated up during our community council today. I think its interesting to get into the head of the thinkers we are exploring. From far away, their ideas may seem irrelevant, or even crazy.. but when we think about when they are speaking, where and how they are positioned, all of their arguments seem to make sense and hold a degree of validity. I think this becomes even more evident when we start to put them in conversation with eachother--- things arent so black and white, and the bigger assumptions behind the claims made are not only revealed but complicated. Discussions have the potential to always be transformative in this way. So feel free to ask any questions on here... you could ask yourselves, how did we get to where we left off, and if we were to have another round, where might it begin....? Next class we have a review class, but we will focus on intersections btw themes as well as the thinkers themselves. This should not only build on, but add another level to our discussion today. I think you are all capable of contributing, and I really thought we all did a commendable job pushing at the assumptions of the thinkers today. So next week we will do something different, and that will tie in all the themes of the course-- but, the class will also depend more on your contributions than mine. So, please bring in your study guides to tutorial with you next week, as they will no doubt be useful. thanks! cheers, Marcella.
